Evenings in the Park

by Luke on July 26, 2007

DSC00777.JPGOne of the things I love to do after work is take a walk in a park and people watch. The other night at Culture Square (文化广场) there was a man practicing calligraphy on the sidewalk. He had made two brushes out of PVC pipe with tips made of sponge. Dousing the brush tip with water would allow him to write between twenty and thirty characters with each brush. The man was ambidextrous, and wrote different lines of characters with each hand at the same time. To show off, sometimes he’d pivot mid-stroke and continue writing with his body backwards or sideways to what he was writing.

I should have been able to read more of the characters than I did.
